Calcium boride, CaB6 (or Calcium Hexaboride)
- Density: 2.3 g/cm3
- Appearance and Odor: Black cubic, no odor
- Melting Point: around 2,230oC
- Solubility in H2O: Insoluble
- Antioxidant, anti-eroded and refractory boracic additive:
for dolomite carbon and magnesia dolomite carbon fire
materials.
- Nuclear industry: CaB6 can be used for the
manufacturing high purity boron compounds (TiB2,
ZrB2, HfB2, etc.) and boron alloys (Ni-B, Co-B, Cu-B,
etc.).
- Ca3B2N4 and B2N4: CaB6 and nitride mixture produces
Ca3B2N4 which can be used to produce high quality
crystal B2N4.
- Deoxidation: Remove oxygen in copper refining process
for high electrical conductivity.
- Semi-conductor industry:
- Degasification: Used in deoxidation and degasification of
nonferrous metals and alloys.
- BCl3 and other Boron Compounds: A raw material for
manufacturing BCl3 and other boron compounds.
